Rainbow Lodge
Rainbow Lodge - Transitional Housing Project
Concept:
Urban Aboriginal families are provided with an opportunity to have meaningful impact in the outcomes of their lives through intentional living environments, designed and nurtured to provide a forum for a living formula of healthy living. All aspects of a families dynamics are potentially engaged over an annualized “curriculum”. The family experiences a strong foundational stepping stone that enhances their daily living experience building to self efficacy and creating a positive legacy. This process unfolds in the nurtured community environment of Rainbow Lodge, setting in place constructive transitional dynamics for each family involved.
Rainbow Lodge is an experience that does not occur in isolation, but rather in a community concept that is conceptualized with current Calgary resources and environments. The living environment has families who are at various points along the path of healing and successful living. This affords a strong mentoring capacity within the Rainbow Lodge community, and assists with the longer term goal of success beyond the Rainbow Lodge. New families are able to witness the growth of families that have moved beyond the needs of the Rainbow Lodge and that become stabilized community members in the broader sense of the term.
The relationship between the entity of “Rainbow Lodge” and the family living within will be multifaceted. On one level it will appear as a landlord / tenant relationship specifically as it relates to contractual obligations of the participant families. At another level the mentoring and role modeling relationship will be nurtured and facilitated by the “Rainbow Lodge” staff. Collateral community resources, referrals and strengthening links will occur as the Rainbow Lodge facilitates the activation of the participant family in the greater community.
The Rainbow Lodge may interact and mediate or facilitate regarding some of the other social systems that the participant family may be engaging such as school for the children, or other resources, i.e. employment.
The Rainbow Lodge will, with the participant family, develop individual service plans that help to set out goals and accomplishment that can be integrated in the spectrum of nurturing supports. Social development/service programming from within the Ke Mama Nnanik spectrum will be engaged and operational as a consistent theme of the Rainbow Lodge. The Ke Mama Nnanik spectrum of services is very wholistic in its approach and has a recognized evaluated success within the Aboriginal and non Aboriginal community, in virtually all areas of healthy development for children and families. Budgeting, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, age appropriate child development, spirituality, resource access/development, living skills, mentoring and role modeling are part of the community capacity building endeavors of the Ke Mama Nnanik philosophy, a key fabric to a successful Rainbow Lodge.
